Every project starts with research and relationships.

Before a camera turns on, we work with historians and genealogists, dig through archives, and reach out to descendants and community elders. That groundwork is included in every service.

It's why families trust us with their stories, and why the history we share is accurate.

Questions we hear

How much does a project cost?

Every project is scoped and budgeted individually, based on how many voices we record, how deep the research goes, and what you want to create. Most of our partners fund their projects through foundation grants, institutional budgets, and public preservation and arts funding. After our first conversation, we'll send you a detailed proposal and budget you can use in a grant application.

Can we start with just one service?

Yes. Many partners begin with oral history clips and add a documentary, tour, or screening later. Everything we record is made to be built on.

Who owns the interviews and footage?

We agree on ownership and use before we start, and we make sure every person we film gives their permission.

Our project is grant-funded. Can you work with that?

Yes. Our work on Her Name Is Silvia was funded by the Mellon Foundation, and we're used to working with grant timelines, budgets, and reporting.

Where do you work?

Everywhere. We have offices in Austin and Los Angeles and take on projects worldwide. Our work has taken us from the freedom communities of Central Texas to Duke University in North Carolina, and we bring the same care to every community we partner with.
